Königsallee (Kö)

The Königsallee, affectionately called the "Kö" by the people of Düsseldorf, is the city's famous grand boulevard and one of the most fashionable shopping miles in Europe. Down the middle of the boulevard runs an old moat as a tranquil water canal, lined with mighty chestnut trees and spanned by elegant bridges. On the eastern side, luxury boutiques such as Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton line up alongside fine galleries. The Triton Fountain is a popular meeting point, and at the head of the Kö rises the spectacular Kö-Bogen by star architect Daniel Libeskind. The Kö thus unites luxury, history and modern architecture.

Boulevard by the water

The centrepiece of the Königsallee is the old moat, which today flows as a silent water canal right through the boulevard. Lined with tall chestnut trees and spanned by wrought-iron bridges, it lends the street its unmistakable, elegant character. The Triton Fountain at the southern end is a popular meeting point. This combination of water, trees and generous promenades makes the Kö far more than just a shopping street.

Luxury & fashion

The eastern side of the Königsallee is an address of world rank: here the boutiques of the great luxury brands such as Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton line up alongside fine jewellers and galleries. Seeing and being seen is part of the Kö, which is why the street is regarded as Düsseldorf's glamorous shop window. Even those who only browse quickly sense the special, fashionable flair of this famous mile.

The Kö-Bogen

At the northern head of the Königsallee, the Kö-Bogen sets a striking architectural exclamation mark. The complex designed by New York star architect Daniel Libeskind, with its curved, planted façades, links the historic splendour of the Kö with contemporary architecture. Opposite, the Hofgarten opens up, so that shopping, modern building art and greenery meet directly here — a rewarding endpoint for any stroll along the Kö.
