Brauerei im Fuechschen
The Brauerei im Fuechschen is one of the liveliest house breweries in the Old Town and a favourite of locals. The freshly tapped Füchschen Alt is smooth and balanced, and the kitchen is famous for its crispy pork knuckle. In a sociable, often packed taproom the Koebes pass the glass and carry the hearty plates to the long tables. Here the real, unaffected Old Town brewpub life reigns.
Füchschen Alt
The house Füchschen Alt is made in the in-house brewery and comes freshly tapped to the table. It is considered especially smooth and balanced, less bitter than the Uerige and thus a good entry into the world of Altbier. The Koebes keep an eye on the small glasses and refill them without asking, as long as the coaster is not on top of the glass.
Famous Pork Knuckle
On the culinary side the house is known above all for its crispy pork knuckle, considered one of the best in the city. Alongside it, Rhineland classics such as Sauerbraten, potato pancakes and hearty sausage dishes are on the menu. The portions are generous and down-to-earth, made for the hunger after a round through the Old Town.
Sociable Old Town Life
The taproom is often packed; at the long tables strangers quickly fall into conversation, and the mood is warm and lively. The Füchschen lies in the heart of the Old Town and is one of the fixed stops on an Altbier tour. There are no reservations; anyone looking for a seat needs a little patience depending on the time of day and a fondness for sociable shuffling together.
