Uerige
The Uerige is an institution of Düsseldorf's Old Town and, like hardly any other house, stands for the city's Altbier culture. The Uerige Altbier brewed here is regarded as the most bitter and full-bodied of the great house breweries and has cult status well beyond the region. In a tangle of winding, wood-panelled rooms and on the lively lane outside, the Köbes pass the glass non-stop. With it come hearty brewpub specialties in genuine Old Town flair.
The Most Bitter Alt in the City
The Uerige Altbier is the calling card of the house and is considered the most bitter and full-bodied of the great Düsseldorf Altbiers. It is brewed directly on site and comes to the table fresh and unfiltered. Those who like it even stronger try the high-strength Sticke, served only on special occasions. The Köbes tap tirelessly and make sure no one is left sitting dry.
A Winding Brewpub
The Uerige consists of a tangle of winding, darkly wood-panelled rooms that have grown over the decades and exude a charm all their own. The hearty brewpub fare includes savoury open sandwiches with homemade sausage, rye bread with dripping and robust classics. The atmosphere is sociable, tight and lively, just as it should be in a genuine Old Town brewery.
A Meeting Point in the Old Town
Set in the heart of the Old Town, the Uerige is a fixed part of any tour along the longest bar in the world. In good weather, guests stand with their glass out on the lane too, which is part of the special experience. A reservation is not provided for; especially in the evening and at the weekend, you should bring patience and a taste for the typical crush.
