Unterbilk & MedienHafen

Unterbilk unites two worlds: the MedienHafen is Düsseldorf's most spectacular urban development project, where the curved Gehry buildings, the bold architecture of international star architects and the Rhine Tower, visible from afar, have created a quarter for media, fashion and dining out of a former trading harbour. Right next door lies the Loretto quarter with its pretty old-building streets, charming boutiques, cafés and restaurants. So avant-garde harbour architecture and cosy residential-quarter flair meet in the tightest of spaces right on the Rhine.

Location & Character

Unterbilk lies south of the Carlstadt on the Rhine and, with the MedienHafen and the Loretto quarter, unites two very different faces. While the harbour stands for modern architecture, offices and going out, the Loretto quarter is a grown, charming residential quarter. This mix of avant-garde and cosiness makes Unterbilk one of the most interesting and sought-after districts of Düsseldorf.

MedienHafen & Architecture

The MedienHafen emerged from an old trading and industrial harbour and is today regarded as the city's architectural showpiece. The curved, seemingly dancing Gehry buildings, glass office towers and repurposed warehouses house agencies, fashion, restaurants and bars. Above it all rises the Rhine Tower, whose observation deck and revolving restaurant offer a wide view over the city and the river.

Loretto Quarter & Life

Right next door, the Loretto quarter shows the residential side of Unterbilk: pretty old-building streets around Lorettostraße, owner-run boutiques, cafés and restaurants shape the picture. The quarter is regarded as trendy and at the same time neighbourly. So a day can be spent wonderfully between harbour architecture, Rhine views and a relaxed stroll through the charming streets of the quarter.
