boot Duesseldorf is the world's largest watersports and boating trade fair and fills the halls of the exhibition grounds on the Rhine in mid-January. When all of Duesseldorf cries "Helau", the Rose Monday parade rolls through the city centre and along the Koenigsallee. More than sixty floats pass by, among them the famous, biting satirical floats that skewer politics and current affairs. Sweets fly into the cheering crowd, and the Old Town turns into one colourful, exuberant party mile.

Japan Day Duesseldorf/NRW celebrates German-Japanese friendship along the Rhine promenade. Between tea ceremonies, manga and street food, cosplayers and families throng the riverbank while stages bring taiko drums and J-pop. In the evening, one of the largest fireworks displays in Europe crowns the festival and sets the sky above the Rhine glowing in a thousand colours.

The largest funfair on the Rhine transforms the Oberkassel Rheinwiesen into a giant fairground in mid-July. Hosted by the St. Sebastianus marksmen's guild, it draws around four million visitors with a Ferris wheel, rides and beer tents. To finish, the great fireworks display is mirrored in the river and bathes the Old Town skyline opposite in warm light.

Duesseldorf's Christmas Market spreads across several themed market villages in the Old Town and along the elegant Koenigsallee.
