Kunstpalast

The Kunstpalast is one of Düsseldorf's most tradition-rich art museums and lies in the striking Ehrenhof ensemble on the edge of the Hofgarten. Its extensive collection spans a wide arc from the Middle Ages through Dutch and Flemish painting to modernism and the present. Among the highlights are works by Peter Paul Rubens. Especially outstanding is the integrated glass museum with the important Hentrich Collection, which comprises one of the largest and finest glass collections in the world. With top-class changing exhibitions and its broadly diversified collection, the Kunstpalast is one of the most important houses in the city.

Collection from the Middle Ages to modernism

The Kunstpalast's collection is remarkably versatile and ranges from the Middle Ages through Dutch and Flemish painting to works of modernism and the present. Among the highlights are paintings by Peter Paul Rubens, plus sculptures, prints and applied art from various eras. This breadth makes the house an ideal place to experience art history across many centuries in a single location.

The glass museum

A special feature of the Kunstpalast is the integrated glass museum with the famous Hentrich Collection. It is regarded as one of the largest and highest-quality glass collections in the world and shows precious objects from antiquity to the present. The span reaches from Roman glass through splendid Renaissance goblets to modern studio glass, making this part of the museum a luminous, often underrated highlight.

Tips for your visit

The Kunstpalast lies in the imposing Ehrenhof complex on the edge of the Hofgarten, so a museum visit combines well with a walk through the park and along the Rhine. Besides the permanent exhibition, it is worth looking at the regularly changing special shows, which often bring big names and themes to Düsseldorf. For the extensive collection you should allow plenty of time.
