The largest funfair on the Rhine returns to the Oberkassel meadows
In July the Rhine meadows in Oberkassel once again turn into the largest funfair on the Rhine — with a Ferris wheel, rides and a grand high-altitude firework display.
The largest funfair on the Rhine, held in honour of Saint Apollinaris, is one of the biggest funfairs in Germany and returns to the Oberkassel Rhine meadows in July 2026. On the wide festival grounds directly opposite the Old Town, a Ferris wheel visible from afar, roller coasters and numerous rides and showman's attractions spin over nine days. The festival is traditionally organised by the heritage association of the Düsseldorf marksmen, who shape the procession and the customs. The highlight is the grand high-altitude firework display over the Rhine, which draws hundreds of thousands to the banks on the closing Friday. Around four million visitors are expected in total. The city sets up additional train and bus connections and recommends travelling by public transport because of the crowds.
